The store will provide a curated selection of local and artisanal food and drink, high-end pantry staples, grab + go bites, locally sourced produce, frozen meats and dinner options, gifts and seasonal items.

To support local farmers, artisans, and makers, and to create a gathering space that reflects the warmth and tradition of a classic New England general store—with a modern, curated twist.
The Kensington General Store would be designed to evoke nostalgia while serving the needs of modern, conscious consumers seeking freshness, quality, and locality in both products and experience.
HOW WILL KENSINGTON BENEFIT?

Kensington lacks a place where neighbors can simply gather, run into one another, and feel connected to the community.
The General Store would create a welcoming, year-round gathering place in the heart of town — somewhere to grab a cup of coffee, meet a friend, or stop in while passing through.
Keeping it Local:
Whenever possible, the General Store would source from local farms, bakers, makers, and small businesses. This keeps more of our spending close to home, gives local producers another place to sell their goods, and creates a store that reflects the people, products, and character of our region.
Convenience, Close to Home:
The General Store would offer a thoughtfully selected mix of everyday staples, fresh food, local goods — and, yes, hot coffee! — right here in town.
Rather than replacing the larger stores around us, it would provide a convenient local option for the things residents need or want without always having to leave Kensington.

HOW WILL THE GRANGE BENEFIT?
Adaptive reuse of the Grange as a general store will help secure its long-term health by giving it a sustained new purpose while preserving its historic character. Regular use of the building will ensure its ongoing maintenance and care.
By serving as a community hub once again, the building maintains its role in civic life, strengthening its cultural and social value. The balance of preservation and practicality keeps the Grange building relevant while at the same time safeguarding its historic integrity.
